Silicon nitride ceramics are a type of high-performance advanced structural ceramic material with the chemical formula Si?N?. It has been widely applied in many high-tech and industrial fields due to its outstanding comprehensive performance.
High strength and high hardness: It features extremely high room temperature strength and high-temperature strength (maintaining considerable strength above 1000°C), as well as very high hardness (second only to a few materials such as diamond and cubic boron nitride), and excellent wear resistance.
Core features
Excellent high-temperature resistance: It can be used for a long time at temperatures above 1200°C in an oxygen-free atmosphere and can be stably used at approximately 1400°C in an oxidizing atmosphere. It has a small strength attenuation at high temperatures and good creep resistance.
Outstanding thermal shock resistance: With a low coefficient of thermal expansion and a relatively high thermal conductivity, it can withstand drastic temperature changes without cracking, which is a significant advantage over many other ceramics.
Good chemical stability
Corrosion resistance: It has extremely strong resistance to most acids (except hydrofluoric acid), alkalis, and molten metals (such as aluminum, zinc, lead, tin, and even copper).
Antioxidant property: In high-temperature air, a dense layer of silica oxide will form, preventing further oxidation.
Biocompatibility: Non-toxic, good compatibility with human tissues, suitable for biomedical implants.
Low density: The density is approximately 3.1-3.3 g/cm3, which is much lower than that of metals (such as steel's 7.8 g/cm3), facilitating lightweighting.
Good electrical insulation: It is an excellent electrical insulator.
Self-lubricating property: During the friction process, a thin layer of silica or silicic acid forms on the surface, which has a certain self-lubricating effect and a relatively low coefficient of friction.
