Chromic catgut suture is a sterile absorbable monofilament suture composed of purified collagen derived from either the serosal layer of beef(bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines. The chromic catgut suture undergoes a rib-bon stage chromicisation and is treated with glycerin and chromic salt solutions and larger resistance to absorption compared to  plain catgut. The chromic catgut suture is available undyed, from usp size:5/0~3#.
